RBQ general contractor licence
An RBQ general contractor licence covers at least one Schedule I subclass, such as 1.2 (small buildings) or 1.3 (buildings of all kinds). Their guarantor passes the three management exams and one construction work exam per Schedule I or II subclass requested. Here is what the licence costs and requires in 2026. On RBQexam, the construction work exams for subclasses 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2 and 1.3 are included in the subscription. The other construction work exams are not included for now, and we do not announce a date.

General contractor
Plus one construction work exam per Schedule I or II subclass requested.
Included on RBQexam: 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2 and 1.3.
Good to know
- A general licence can also carry Schedule II and III subclasses; Schedule III subclasses need no construction work exam.
- The bond is $40,000 as soon as a general subclass is requested, even alongside specialized ones. It is not required when the only subclasses are 1.1.1 and 1.1.2, which the guarantee plan covers.
- A February 2026 draft regulation would raise this bond to $60,000. On September 26, 2026, it was still under review and the amount in force was still $40,000.
- 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2 and 1.3: these subclasses share the same construction work exam profile, and every skill assessed for 1.2 is also assessed for 1.3. On RBQexam, one question bank covers them.
