There is no official RBQ exam PDF with answers. The only official source of questions is the sample questions page (Exemples de questions) of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ): four multiple-choice questions, one per field, with the right answer shown. The files that circulate as "RBQ exam PDF" are not published by the RBQ, and much of what is in them goes out of date quickly. Here is what actually exists, and how to practise without relying on stale answers.

What the RBQ actually publishes

Search for an RBQ exam PDF and you mostly find three kinds of documents. Only the first two come from the RBQ.

DocumentWhat it containsPublished by the RBQ?
Sample questions page4 questions, choices A to D, right answer shownYes (source (opens in a new tab))
Exam information sheets (PDF)Duration, pass mark, documents handed out or recommendedYes (preparation page (opens in a new tab))
Competency profiles (PDF)Modules and elements tested, no weightingYes (preparation page (opens in a new tab))
"Full exam with answers"Varies, cannot be verifiedNo

The sample page: 4 questions, choices A to D

The sample page has four questions: one in administration, one in safety management, one in project management and one in construction work. Each question has four choices, A to D, and the right answer is shown. The RBQ says all its exams are multiple choice with one right answer, and that some questions rely on plans, specifications or reference documents lent to you on exam day.

Information sheets and profiles: useful PDFs, but not exams

The information sheets (fiches d’information) are real RBQ PDFs. They give the duration (3 h for Administration, 1 h 30 for Safety Management, 3 h for Project and Site Management, 3 h for a construction work exam) and the 60% pass mark. The competency profiles describe what is tested, module by module. They publish no weighting, so you will not know how many questions cover each module. For the list of documents handed out in the room, see our documents provided at RBQ exams cheat sheet.

What the four official samples cover

The samples are short, but they show the style of each exam well.

Administration: a calculation

The administration question asks you to calculate a billing rate. It is a reminder that the Administration exam is not just theory: you need to calculate quickly and accurately.

Safety management: compensation, not prevention

Many people expect a question about a prevention duty on site. It is not. The safety sample is about compensating an injured worker: who pays the income replacement indemnity (indemnité de remplacement du revenu) at the start of the absence. It is a good reminder that the Site Safety Management exam also covers compensation files.

Project management: the right combination of steps

The Project and Site Management sample gives a numbered list of steps and asks you to pick the right combination. This "combination" format calls for careful reading of each item, because one wrong item makes the whole choice wrong.

Construction work: a quantity calculation

The construction work sample is a lumber quantity calculation, with multi-part choices. It refers to a page of an accompanying booklet (Cahier d’accompagnement 1), which shows you will be working with documents handed out on site.

Why the "answers" going around go stale fast

Even when a copy was accurate once, it ages badly. Three reasons.

The RBQ keeps renewing its exams

According to its 2024-2025 annual report, 49% of the exams administered that year were new versions, against a target of 15%. In 2023-2024, the result was 10%. The RBQ sets higher targets every year, up to 50% in 2027-2028. A question bank copied two or three years ago has a good chance of no longer matching your exam.

The rules change

Answers depend on the law in force. For example, the exam retake rule changed on March 1, 2026 (see RBQ exam retake rules). An "answer" written before that date can be wrong today. Our article on RBQ exam changes in 2026 covers the recent changes.

Even the official sample cites an outdated reference

The project management sample still cites the guarantee plan regulation as B-1.1, r. 0.2. That number no longer exists on LégisQuébec, and neither does B-1.1, r. 1.01. The current citation for the guarantee plan regulation is B-1.1, r. 8 (opens in a new tab). If an official document can drift like that, imagine an unofficial copy that was never updated.

Copying the exam booklet is prohibited

The RBQ instructions page is clear: your personal belongings and reference documents, including your notes, are put away during the exam. You use only the materials provided (for example a ruler, pencil, calculator, dictionary and, depending on the exam, codes, regulations or statutes). Reproducing the exam booklet or the accompanying booklets is strictly prohibited.

In practice, a document sold or shared as a "copy of the RBQ exam" does not come from an authorized source, and you have no way to check whether it is accurate, complete or current. Better not to build your preparation on it.

Where to practise with original questions

You have better options than a questionable PDF.

  1. The RBQ’s official samples. Do all four questions, then reread the right answer and the reasoning.
  2. The software practice test. If your exam is on a computer, the access details you receive by mail or email also open a practice test of the exam software (computerized exams page (opens in a new tab)). Keep those details confidential: they stay the same for as long as your guarantor (répondant) status is valid, and you will need them on exam day.
  3. The competency profiles. Use them as a checklist, module by module. Our guide on how to prepare for the RBQ exam shows how.
  4. Original questions, explained. Our sample question pages for Administration, Site Safety Management and Project and Site Management offer questions we wrote ourselves, with the explanation and the section number to look up, without reproducing the official texts.

The exams are offered in French and English. If you plan to write in English, read how to take the RBQ exam in English.

FAQ

Is there an official RBQ exam PDF with answers?

No. The RBQ publishes a page of four sample questions with the right answer, plus information sheets and competency profiles as PDFs. It does not publish a full exam.

Are the answers found online reliable?

You cannot check. The RBQ renewed 49% of the exams administered in 2024-2025, and several rules changed in 2025 and 2026. An answer that was right a few years ago can be wrong today.

Can I bring my notes or a summary to the exam?

No. Personal notes and your own documents are put away. You use only the materials handed out on site. Depending on the exam, some statutes, regulations or codes are provided.

How many questions are on the RBQ exam?

The RBQ does not publish that number. It publishes the duration of each exam and the 60% pass mark. See our article on the RBQ exam format.

Where can I find the list of documents handed out?

On the RBQ information sheets, summarized in our documents provided at RBQ exams cheat sheet.
